The tenth unique artistic bench, titled “To Stand and to Withstand”, was created by architect Uroš Rošker. It is located in the courtyard of the Evangelical Church at Trubarjeva ulica 1 in Maribor. The bench is made of concrete, and its ceremonial unveiling took place on 15 June 2017.
Architect Uroš Rošker is the author of the interior redesign of the Evangelical Church in Trubarjeva ulica, Maribor. Ten years later, he returned to it and designed a bench dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Reformation and Protestantism.
The story of the Bench
The bench features two plaques: one with Primož Trubar’s quote “To stand and to withstand” and another with a sentence from Martin Luther’s writings: “Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would end, I would still plant an apple tree today.” With this bench, the author hints at the greatness of these two figures, who stand out as “first among equals.” The bench, made of ten tons of concrete, is a unified structure composed of equilateral triangular forms of varying heights. In keeping with the quote, an apple tree is planted next to the bench.
