The creator of the third unique artistic bench is sculptor Robert Jurak. He named it “The Dating Bench” as it is situated between the student dormitories at Gosposvetska cesta 83 in Maribor. It is made of wood and “recycled” metal (from a demolished bridge). The bench was ceremoniously unveiled on 20 September 2015.
The diverse creation of paintings, sculptures, and representations by artist Robert Jurak is recognisably socially critical. He “plays” with various materials, most often using wood and metal in his sculptural work.
Story of the Bench
The bench, located in the courtyard of the student dormitories, is designed as a trio of clouds where one can sit, be uplifted, and dream. The backrest on the central “cloud” represents the spontaneous interweaving and connection (of thoughts, emotions, feelings) and solidarity among young people. It also expresses the desire for young people to work together to build a world that is good and just for all.
