The fourth unique artistic bench is located by the Judgement Tower on Lent in Maribor. Its creator, academic sculptor Metka Kavčič, named it “The Women’s Bench”. It is made of metal, wood, and bronze. The ceremonial unveiling took place on 13 November 2015.
Metka Kavčič graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Ljubljana under Professor Slavko Tihac. She completed her specialisation in conservation and restoration under Professor Franc Kokalj. She furthered her expertise at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
Story of the Bench
The women’s cloak on the bench serves as a reminder of the judgments that interrupted the lives of many innocent people during the Middle Ages and witch trials. Today, laws and judgments are different, yet cruelty and violence still persist within them. These are deeply rooted in the consciousness of generations and in all human societies.
