Peter Kärst was born in 1956 in Braunschweig, Germany. In 1973, he started studying sculpture in master workshops and at the Art School in Hannover. From 1979 to 1981, he studied in Italy and France. In 1983/1984, he attended the Art University in Berlin. From 1985 onwards, he held several solo exhibitions and participated in several group shows in Germany and the Netherlands. He also took part in the sculpture congress in Frankfurt. In 1987, he was the recipient of a scholarship in Lower Saxony. He received three first prizes in competitions in 1987 and 1988. From 1991 to 2004, he studied sociology and art history at the University of Oldenburg. In 2000, he was a lecturer at the Witten/Herdecke University, and in 2003 at the Zittau/Görlitz University. His sculptures are installed in numerous public spaces. In addition to sculpture, he also works as a painter and designer. He lives and work in Leer, Germany.
