The first teacher of lacemaking in Veliki Dol was Antonija Kumer from Idrija. She was succeeded by Katarina Jež (born in 1887) from Idrija. She went to school to become a lacemaking teacher in Vienna. At the beginning, she lived in the area of the lacemaking school. Even after the wedding with Jožef Živec from Skopo she lived in Veliki Dol during the week. She taught lace making till 1948, when she retired. She taught for 37 years. Her pupils remind her as a patient teacher, very kind and simple. In 1950 Marija Kramar came to teach. She was born in 1921 in Železniki. She attended the lacemaking school there. She married on the Karst, too and took the surname Živec and she still lives in Sežana. In 1957 school was abolished due to low interest.
