The seventeenth unique artistic bench, named “Embrace”, was created by university graduate architect Oskar Virag. It is located at the Pobrežje Cemetery, on Cesta XIV. divizije in Maribor. The bench is made of metal and was officially unveiled on 15 September 2021.
Oskar Virag graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Ljubljana. He works independently at the architectural firm Vires in Maribor. He is the author of numerous projects and adaptations, including the remarkable Vinarium observation tower in the Lendava Hills.
The story of the Bench
The bench at the Maribor cemetery is dedicated to nurturing the memory and connection between the deceased and their living loved ones. This intention or desire is represented by a plant rising from the ground, winding around the bench, and embracing it.
