Johannes Vogl was born in 1981 in the town of Kaufbeuren in Germany. From 2002 to 2005, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, from 2005 to 2007 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, from 2007 to 2008 at the Weißensee Academy of Art in Berlin, and from 2008 to 2010 at the Art University (Universitaet der Kuenste/UDK) in Berlin. His works have been exhibited in several solo and group exhibitions in Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Russia, Turkey, Italy, Belgium, Great Britain, Iran, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands and the USA. In 2008, he participated in Manifesta 7 in Rovere, Italy. He is the recipient of several awards and prizes. He lives and works in Berlin.

The sculpture is composed of 1,200 equilateral triangles made of 5-mm thick steel plates, with sides measuring 30 cm in length. The triangles are welded in spots so that there are slits between them through which light flows in at night. At night, when the spotlights are on inside, the sculpture turns into a projector projecting white lines. Light seeps through the gaps between the sides and draws an image on the ground and in the background composed of trees. Meteorite’s double nature – a sculpture during the day, a gadget at night – enables the work to transcend the usual limitations of sculpture.
